Il s'agissait d'une nouvelle marque née en 1932 chez DAT Jidosha Seizo, le prédécesseur de Nissan Motor. À l'origine, la marque « DAT » a été fondée sous le nom de Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works, le prédécesseur de DAT Jidosha Seizo, et était un acronyme dérivé des initiales des noms de famille de trois investisseurs. Plus tard, « SON » a été ajouté à la fin pour devenir « DATSON », car il s'agissait du « fils » qu'ils avaient créé. Cependant, en japonais, « SON » signifie « perte », c'est pourquoi il a été immédiatement remplacé par « SUN », qui a une connotation plus positive, et le nom est devenu DATSUN.

Lancée en 1969, la Datsun 240Z a connu un succès mondial, non seulement au Japon, mais aussi en Amérique du Nord. Dans le but de démontrer ses performances élevées en tant que voiture de sport, la Datsun 240Z a commencé à participer à des compétitions mondiales de rallye.
Seiko, partageant l'esprit de défi de Datsun, a soutenu la Datsun 240Z dans ses activités sportives automobiles au début des années 1970.

The logo symbolizing the "DATSUN" is placed at the 6 o'clock position. Inspired by the color of rally cars, which minimizes light reflection, matte black is used for the dial, while red accents are added to the second hand and dial ring to enhance legibility.
The Arabic numerals on the dial ring take inspiration from the font used on the Datsun 240Z dashboard.

Boîtier / Bracelet

By operating the 4 o'clock crown, a countdown timer function can be used to measure key intervals in motorsports competitions, such as the time remaining before the start and target durations for tasks such as tire changes and refuelling. The leather strap is sourced from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group, of which Seiko is a member. The seams on the inner sides of both of the leather strap is covered with lining to minimize damage from sweat and water.

The iconic mark, a symbol of the "DATSUN", is engraved on the case back.
The words "LIMITED EDITION" and the serial number are applied on the case back.
